Spider Plus Mummy

So what do you get when you take a mummy...

...and combine it with a giant spider?

Why, you get a...

SPIDER MUMMY! SPIDER MUMMY!

Context for those who weren't watching KidsWB during the early '00s: During said time period, the network had some incredibly imaginative and out there commercials. These single commercials would often have added on special effects for comedic effect, theme songs (yes, single commercials for just one episode with their own individual theme songs), and probably other amusing things I can't remember.

One particular episode of the cartoon loosely based on the more recent The Mummy featured an episode where the titular character-who yes, technically was a mummy despite being purple and not having a single bandage-finds and revives an ancient spider monster of some sort and, using magically energized water and electricity from a hydroelectric dam, merges with it into, well, a spider mummy.

In and of itself, the episode might not have been terribly memorable, but its commercial had a jingle-Spider mummy! Spider mummy! Something something something something, spider mummy!-etc., and it was mind-bogglingly awesome.

A few years ago, my sister and I were going through an old video cassette that we had recorded some stuff from that time period on, and were suddenly barraged by this theme song. We both just about fell over, because we remembered it perfectly.

And then, more recently still, Sis picked up all three volumes of the cartoon's DVD release, which gave me a chance to finally happily vent about this on my blog.

And now you know... the rest of the story.

-Signing off.
